Home is the real MVP (most valuable place) in 2020
We have had to stay home a lot in 2020. Earlier in the year, it was because of the lockdown as a result of the pandemic. Just in October, some cities in Nigeria introduced curfews as a result of the violence that followed the #endsars peaceful protests. So without a doubt, we all need our homes to be calming and safe spaces. The following free tips have been helpful for me in this regard:
Let in some natural light
Natural light helps to brighten moods and lift our spirits. I have always loved natural light at home or work. But last week I was forced to keep some curtains closed because there was just so much gun fire around my area. When calm returned, I quickly drew open the curtains and let in some light. I must admit it felt so much better.
Let in some fresh air
While letting in light, it is important to let in fresh air too. Personally, it feels better breathing fresh air than just indoor or air conditioned air.
Allow the Right Words Only
There are words that lift up or tear down. As tempting as it may be, we have to be careful not to speak words or have conversations that simply restate and magnify the bad situations out there. We can deliberately choose words of love, hope and faith. I feel better and energised when I speak positively to people in my home and when I pray.
Interestingly, I think most of us practice these three tips already. I guess, the point is for us to keep them up or be more be deliberate about them. And if you have not thought of them before, I hope some light, fresh air and positive words help.
